For the first time in this World Cup tournament, the crowd will not be in England’s favour. Over the last four games, England have had around 75% of the support in the stadiums. At the Azteca, things will be different. The altitude and the home support for Mexico will make it a real test for England, but they must show no fear. The players must embrace this challenge. This is what you dream of when you are young, playing at World Cups in iconic stadiums.Â
England Return to The Hand of God Stadium
This will be the first time England have played at the Azteca Stadium since the infamous Hand of God goal by Diego Maradona 40 years ago. It was also the place where Maradona scored one of the greatest goals of all time, when he beat 5 players to score past Peter Shilton.
The stadium has held some memorable moments over the years, and this England team are aiming to create their own history on Monday. If England can overcome the host nation of Mexico, they will set up a quarter-final meeting with either Norway or Brazil in Miami on July 11th.
