Chelsea have made a move for Atalanta defender Marco Palestra, with reports suggesting a deal could be finalized within 24 hours. Palestra has had interest from Inter Milan, but a move to Chelsea seems to be his preferred choice. Palestra is a wing back who has the ability to play on both sides and in the center. The versatility of Palestra is what appeals to new manager Xabi Alonso.
Palestra: One of Italy’s Brightest Talents
What makes Palestra stand out is his speed. He is tall, athletic and very powerful, which is a perfect fit for the Premier League’s physical style. Palestra has already earned an Italian cap, and at 21 years of age, there are sure to be more caps in the future. Chelsea are said to be offering around £43 million for the young defender, with the hope that it will be Alonso’s first big signing.
Chelsea are also keen on bringing in a central defender as well as a midfielder, with Strasbourg’s Valentin Barco top of the list. A versatile striker is also on the list, as Chelsea only managed a 10th-place finish last season.
