Ecuador Fight Back and Could Face England in the Knockout Stage
It was only the second time in their history that Ecuador reached the knockout rounds of the World Cup, and what better way than beating Germany. The South American team had failed to score in their previous two games and had it all to do to beat four-time winners Germany. They knew a win would send them through, and they rose to the occasion in New Jersey.
Goals from Nilson Angulo and Gonzalo Plata ensured they will play another match at the 2026 World Cup. That match could be against England if they win Group L on Sunday.
