Brazil had to come from behind against Japan to seal their path into the last 16 of the tournament in Houston last night. It was Japan that took the lead just before 30 minutes were on the clock with a goal from Kaishu Sano. After a slight tactical change from Ancelotti, the equaliser came in typical Casemiro fashion. The Brazilian midfielder rose and headed the ball into the Japanese net to make it 1-1 on 56 minutes.
Martinelli Puts Brazil Through in the 96th Minute
Japan decided to sit deep and try to hold out for extra time, and that was their mistake. Brazil put lots of pressure on Japan’s back four; it was just a matter of time until they made a mistake. Then Bruno Guimaraes found Martinelli in the box in the 96th minute for him to score in the bottom corner.
It sent the Brazilian players and fans into delirium as they booked their ticket into the last 16 of the competition. Brazil will now face either Côte d’Ivoire or Norway in New Jersey next Tuesday.
