ARLINGTON, TEXAS - JUNE 30: Erling Haaland #9 of Norway celebrates scoring his team's second goal during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round Of 32 match between Cote d'Ivoire and Norway at Dallas Stadium on June 30, 2026 in Arlington, Texas. (Photo by Lars Baron/Getty Images)

Erling Haaland got the winning goal as Norway beat Côte d’Ivoire 2-1 to reach the last 16 of the tournament. His fifth goal of the World Cup put him in the record books as the quickest player to score 60 national goals. The 25-year-old is a goal machine and scored his 60th goal for Norway in only 53 games. This means he reached the landmark in 69 fewer games than Messi and 77 fewer than Ronaldo.

Haaland May Be The Greatest Goalscorer Ever

Erling Haaland is the fastest player ever to reach 60 national goals in football history. Haaland’s goal last night means he has scored in his 13th consecutive international match. In fact, his total over the last 13 international games is an outstanding 25 goals.

Norway looked like they would be heading into extra time with Côte d’Ivoire as the game was locked at 1-1 with a few minutes remaining. But Haaland had other ideas and netted in the 86th minute to win the match for Norway. They will now face Brazil in the last 16 in New Jersey.
