As the semi-final showdown between France and Spain draws closer, one player will be more excited than most. Kylian Mbappe will be licking his lips with excitement, as this is not only the chance to avenge the defeat at the same stage of the European Championships in 2024 against Spain, but it is a chance to make his Spanish critics eat their words.
Mbappe’s Relationship With The Spanish Media Has Been Strained
Since his free transfer from PSG in 2024, Real Madrid have not won a piece of silverware. Even though his goal-scoring record is impressive with 86 goals in 103 appearances, the Spanish media have not been convinced of Mbappe. At the end of last season, Mbappe scored just four times between the middle of February and the end of the season. This left the Spanish press wanting his blood.
The World Cup has been a welcome distraction for the player, as he has been in scintillating form, scoring eight goals so far. Mbappe will be aiming to put on a masterclass and punish the Spanish team and Spanish press for all the torment he has received over the last year.
