Aston Villa have been searching for midfield replacements after the sale of Youri Tielemans to Manchester United and a long-term injury to Amadou Onana. Unai Emery needed cover in the middle of the pitch, and the Wolves player was high on his list. The Brazilian midfielder has already left Wolves’ pre-season camp so he can make the move to Villa Park.
Villa Get The Reinforcement They Need
Gomes looks set to undergo a medical with Villa on Thursday to finalise his £38 million transfer across the Midlands. It will be an initial payment of £34 million with a further £4 million structured in performance-related add-ons. At 25 years of age, Gomes has been a standout player for Wolves, so the chance to continue playing in the Premier League was an important factor.
Gomes also had Atletico Madrid interested in winning his signature, but his desire to stay in England won over. Last season Gomes played 41 times for Wolves, making it a total of 130 games since his arrival from Flamengo in 2023. Aston Villa are also set to bring in Johan Manzambi for a club record of £50 million too.
