Marsch Says His Team Are “Canadian Heroes”
The game looked to be heading to extra time as South Africa were solid in defence, but a moment of magic in the 92nd minute changed everything. Canada had many chances and were the better team as South Africa defended with everything. Stephen Eustaquio returned to the first team and will never forget this game.
Stephen Eustaquio created history as the second player to create five chances from set pieces, joint with Andrea Pirlo for the most in a knockout World Cup match, with five other chances alongside that. Jesse Marsch spoke to his players after the game and said:
You guys showed character, you guys are Canadian heroes now, Canadian heroes for the future children of this country.
