Colombia edged past Ghana 1-0 to book a place in the last 16 and a match against Switzerland in Vancouver on Tuesday. Colombia certainly deserved the victory as they were much the better side; now they look to better their 2014 World Cup run, which saw them get into the last eight.

Nestor Lorenzo, the manager of Colombia who was also a member of the Argentina side that lost in the final in 1990, said:

It means a lot. It’s a very tough tournament with different temperatures and lots of travelling, really difficult logistics for everyone.

Now he could potentially face his old side in the quarter-finals if they beat Switzerland.

Ghana Lacked Creativity Throughout the Tournament

This was Ghana’s first knockout match since the fateful night in Johannesburg, when Suarez and Uruguay prevented Ghana from becoming the first African team to reach the semi-finals. But Ghana have overachieved this year with their limited squad, and without Mohammed Kudus they lacked creativity. Ghana never even managed a shot on target against Colombia.
