- Milan City Council has approved the two clubs’ acquisition of the San Siro area for the construction of a new stadium.
- The famous San Siro stadium is to be demolished after 99 years, with the surrounding areas being sold for 197 million euros.
After 12 hours of debate, 24 councillors voted for the sale and 20 voted against. This vote means that AC Milan and Inter can build a new 71,500-capacity stadium on the current site.
The mayor of Milan, Beppe Sala, made a historic announcement to sell the land to both clubs for 197 million euros. The plan is to have the new stadium built and ready for 2031, which means it will be on time for the European Championship the next year. The San Siro is one of the most iconic football stadiums on the planet. It has been the home ground for AC Milan since 1926, but it has not been updated since the 1990 World Cup.
Both Milan clubs look forward with confidence as the new stadium will meet the highest international standards and will become a famous architectural masterpiece of the city. The redevelopment has been split into five areas. It will include the stadium, a museum, shops, hotels, and football pitches. This project is expected to generate 3.1 billion euros in economic growth.
