After a slow start to the World Cup, Spain seems to be warming up after a comfortable win over Austria. It was a dominating victory which saw Mikel Oyarzabal score two and a header from Pedro Porro seal the game 3-0. It was the fourth time Spain had kept a clean sheet, with Unai Simón breaking Iker Casillas’ 2010 title-winning record. Spain had 64% possession and 10 shots on target, 23 overall, demonstrating the dominance Spain had through the game.

Big Teams Turn Up When It Matters

Spain have finally turned up at the World Cup, and other teams will not want to play them. Austria did not know how to deal with Spain; their attacking players always seemed to find space, and the Spanish defense was rock solid. It is strange to say, but Spain are now the most formidable team defensively; they suffocated Austria to death.

It will be difficult for teams to break down the Spanish defence, who have not yet conceded in the tournament. Spain now faces rivals Portugal in Dallas on July 6th for a place in the quarter-finals.
