Aston Villa have completed their record signing of Johan Manzambi from Freiburg. Villa managed to convince Manzambi to head to Birmingham after Newcastle agreed a deal worth £49 million for the player. But it was the draw of Champions League football that helped convince the Switzerland international to join Aston Villa.
After an Impressive World Cup, Manzambi is Ready for the Premier League
According to reports, the total Manzambi package is worth £59.5 million with add-ons included. This is a club record for Aston Villa as it eclipses the £50 million Villa paid for Amadou Onana from Everton in 2024. This will be the first summer signing for Villa, with other new arrivals expected soon. The Europa League winners are also set to bring in Joao Gomes from Wolves for £38 million.
Newcastle were in prime position to sign Manzambi as the player verbally agreed personal terms, but the chance to participate in the Champions League with Villa was too much for the Swiss to turn down. Manzambi was named the Europa League Young Player of the Season as he played a key role in helping Freiburg reach the final.
