One of the favourites to win the World Cup, France, are through to the last 32 with a game to spare as they beat Iraq 3-0 at the Philadelphia Stadium last night. A double from Kylian Mbappe and the first goal of the tournament from Ousmane Dembele made it an easy night for France. Didier Deschamps’ side knew a victory would take them through, and the team did not disappoint and made it happen with little fuss.
The First Weather Delay of the Tournament
Mbappe was the headline act again as the French captain scored one in each half, and has now got four goals in the tournament so far. But there was some drama in the match as a storm moving through Philadelphia resulted in a two-hour delay. There should have been a 15-minute delay, but the heavy lightning made the organisers postpone the restart for safety reasons. France now has the privilege of resting players if they want when they face Norway in their last match of the group on Friday.
