Egypt made history by beating Australia in Dallas after a penalty shootout. The game ended 1-1 after extra time and was the third match at this year’s competition to end with a penalty shootout. Mo Salah, who is now a free agent, stepped up to take the third penalty for Egypt.
With the score at 2-2 after Australia missed their first penalty. Salah decided to dink the ball over goalkeeper Mat Ryan, who had come on for the penalty shootout. Hossam Abdelmaguid scored the fourth and winning penalty for Egypt to take them through.

About his choice of penalties, Salah said:
If somebody was going to do it, it would be me. I’m more experienced than others, and I wanted to give them confidence. I decided in the last minute I don’t know if it’s my last World Cup or not, but I had to do it.
The win over Australia means Egypt made history, as they won their first knockout match in the World Cup.
