Sidny Cabral scored a World Cup goal that will be difficult to ever forget as Cape Verde almost pulled off one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history. The game finished in a five-goal thriller, which World Champions Argentina won 3-2 after extra time. Cape Verde had already created history by getting to the last 32 of the competition on their World Cup debut. But nobody expected them to give Argentina such a run for their money.
Cape Verde Will Always Be Remembered For Their World Cup Heroics
Argentina took the lead as many expected in the seventh minute when Lionel Messi scored his seventh goal of the tournament. In the second half, Cape Verde equalised with a goal from Deroy Duarte. It seemed like Argentina were through when Lisandro Martinez scored in extra time, but a moment of World Cup brilliance from Sidny Cabral made it 2-2.
The Cape Verde fans went crazy as Cabral celebrated in the stands. But Cape Verde’s tournament run came to an end when Cristian Romero’s deflected header won the game 3-2. Argentina now play Egypt in the last 16.
