After their disappointing draw against Congo in their opening game, Portugal have finally got their World Cup campaign off and running, with a 5-0 beating of Uzbekistan. It took only six minutes for Portugal to get ahead with a Ronaldo half-volley at the near post. Ronaldo made history by becoming the first player to score in six different World Cup tournaments.
Ronaldo Lives For Breaking Records
The first goal put Ronaldo on 144 goals for Portugal, but he was not satisfied, and the 41-year-old scored another after a lovely assist from Bruno Fernandes. The second goal put Ronaldo in the record books once again as he overtook Portuguese legend Eusebio’s record of 9 World Cup goals.
Now sitting on 10 World Cup goals, Ronaldo will be hoping to add more to his record number on Saturday, when Portugal face Colombia in their final group match. He may be behind the 18 goals his great rival Lionel Messi has scored in the World Cup, but Ronaldo is certainly breaking every other record in his incredible career.
