Thomas Tuchel has said England will be better in the knockout round after a below-par performance against Ghana and Panama to top Group L. England found it difficult to create chances against Panama at the weekend and only had two shots on target in the first half. It was the usual suspects, Bellingham and Kane, who saved the day for England as they won the game 2-0.
England Knows What it Takes to Win Big Games
Tuchel made five changes against Panama, with one of them Marcus Rashford, who looked dangerous on his first England start. It was the 62nd minute when Bellingham scored the opening goal, then Kane got the second and broke the World Cup goals record for an English Player.
Asked whether England played better in knockout games compared to one-sided affairs against Panama and Ghana, Tuchel said:
I think so. The first match was like a knockout game, the intensity in the second half. The tension suddenly grew in the match against Croatia. We can trust and rely on our players as they are used to these moments. They play in the Champions League and Europa League until the end. They normally face this; they have strong belief.
